Try installing the apt-get package. You may have to do a google search for it, but
once you get it you'll wonder how
you ever got by without it. Once apt-get is installed, all you have to do is type
apt-get install gd
and it will automatically download the RPM and install it. It will also

I did this 'cause Linux gives me a woody. It doesn't generate
