I have a new install of Linux RH 6.1. I choose a Custom / install
everything on a 3 GB partition with a 150 meg Swap partition. Everything
went smoothly and I had a successful install but on reboot the boot failed
at this point

Try booting into single user mode and disabling the card. Type 'linux
single' or 'linux 1' at the LILO prompt...
