I put Redhat 6.2 on a Compaq Proliant 1500 (Dual P133, 64MB ram, SCSI, but no raid array). The install was OK. (redhat install: custom) I followed along the lines of http://www.geocities.com/rlcomp_1999/linux.html Here are my problems that I have encountered: Redhat doesn't recognize the ram in the machine, so now that's a lilo option on boot. No biggie. Intermittent lockups. This is driving me crazy. The machine acts like the TCPIP is locked - from the outside of the box, no ping response, no samba activity, nothing. But login to the console, and everything looks good - no errors, no errors in any of the logs. Just no tcpip. /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart acts like it's restarting it, and it may be, but it does not change - no tcpip. if I do a /sbin/route the machine can take up to 20 minutes to show the route table... sometimes a few packets are sent from the machine... and then back to the same 'lockup' mode. I upgraded the machine's kernel to 2.2.16-3. I did NOT apply any of the other redhat Errata yet. I've tried both 16-3 and stock in single and dual processor modes. The hangup still remains. I've found that a large disk activity will create the hangup. (ie put an mp3 on a share, and play it off an NT4 workstation, and it's guaranteed that by 75% into the song the tcpip connection will blow chunks to this compaq proliant.) Any suggestions?
