I would like to know the best way to update packages for an old RH7 server.

Currently, I am only interested in rebuilding the Samba 2.2.5-7 package to
work with on my server.

I downloaded the Samba 2.2.5-7 SRPM file from RawHide.

When I did a "rpm --rebuild samba-2.2.5-7.src.rpm", it told me that I had
missing files. Specifically, pam-devel and libacl-devel.

So, I tried to install those files, but there were more failed dependencies.
So I installed THOSE files as well... on and on and on and on!!!

Man, RPM sucks!

However, I do understand the reasoning behind it, so if this is what I have
to do, then so be it.

Here's my question, if I finally do manage to do a successful "rpm --rebuild
samba-2.2.5-7.src.rpm", then can I take that freshly created RPM and install
it on other RH7 servers as well or will I have to install a bunch of other
support files (like libacl, etc.).

Trevor.
