I have a Redhat 6.2 box with a Promise Ultra66 controller in it. I have
applied the IDE patch to my 2.2.16-3 kernel and have two 40GB and one 20GB
drive hooked up to it working flawlessly.
There used to be a 13GB drive on the second port of the second channel,
but I have replaced that with an

You should be able to get patches for any kernel from this site. He
also explains some of what you have to do to implement the patch as
well.

P.S. I noticed an imediate doubling of speed on a drive after having
applied these patches.
Downloaded that kernel patch from ftp.kernel.org, patched it,
recompiled,
machine dies. If you append "pci=reverse" to LILO, it works fine, the
stock PCI IDE controller becomes IDE2 and IDE3, while the ATA66
controller becomes IDE0 and IDE1.
Not sure how to proceed, to see if it needs tweaking,
