Thanks.  The location bar method works great.  I'll be using it
regularly.  The fstab method will require a little research first buts I
will be looking into it because I will not need to type the password in
plain text every time I want to access the Win shares on the network.

For others who may have followed this short thread:  There are other
programs--i.e., xsmbrowser and LinNeighborhood--that would allow me to
access Windows share via a gui interface, but I wanted to keep it simple
(I am still a newbie) and use the same program for local and network
files.
