I now have access to files and directories on my Linux box. The value in the Win98 registry has to be a DWORD. WHen I did that, the password was accepted. Now to get the printer working. The Win98 box sees it, but when you try to print to it, you get a message "Network name cannot be found." Network Neighborhood can see the printer, so not sure what this means? More digging.
