Hello Everyone,

I have (2) Dell PowerEdge 2650's equipped with Broadcom bcm5701 gigabit
ethernet adapters.

I am testing two different configurations: VLAN frame tagging and Port
Aggregation

RedHat seems to left out the bcm5700 ethernet driver from the 2.4.18-26.8.0
kernel, whereas it was previously available. the default now appears to be
tg3.o for Broadcom Tigon based adapters. While the tg3 module works for
simple ethernet and the 8021q module, it appears to be incompitable with
basp -- the Broadcom Advanced Server Program.

-- I was able to configure 8021q VLAN frame-tagging using the 8021q.o
module; however, 802.1q is frame tagging and does handle port aggregation
as specified in 802.1ad
-- I am confused by the missing bcm5700 module from newer 8.0 kernels -- it
allowed more granular control through modules.conf than does tg3 (tg3 allows
none actually :-)
-- Is BASP supported in Red Hat 8.0, or is only available with Red Hat
Advanced Server? I ask the question because BASP is available for W2K
Advanced Server.
-- BASP appears the better solution as it natively understands the bcm5700
controller and supports both aggregation and VLAN tagging.

If anyone can give some precision or make comments, I would certainly
appreciate any help.

Yours Sincerely,

Christopher CUSE
