I think there is a command or pkg called "watch" which does something like you
sueggusted.
I don't have LInux RH 6.1 at the moment so I can't really test it out myself !!

A while back someone told me you could alt-f2 and login to a second
session and issue the df command with an option that would show the
changes in a semi-real time fasion. I have checked the man page for df
and cuoldnt find reference this this.
