Hi
The vidio ram is in fact taken from the
main memory, causing the 121M. One can set the amount of ram provided to
the video card down to 2 megabyte.
If we have gotten hold of a good technition over the phone,
we would not have taken the board in for testing. It was fine, but the
manual does not say the video ram is shared anywhere that we have looked.
I tryed setting the mem=118M boot option, but as far as i could
determine, it was not acted appon by the installer.
I have also tryed the ide=nodma option, but it did not change the
behaviour
of the installer. Aggain, i am not sure that i have given these commands
in the right way.
We then disabled the display card in the bios and left the amount of video
ram set at
2 M, the lowest even if the card itsellf is disabled.
We used the old pci card and tryed the install aggain.
Same result as before.
We then took out the old 8 speed cdrom and connected the newer cdwriter
to be used as a cdrom.
We also then aggain tryed installing rh 7.2. It worked.
Because we were beginning to suspect the hard disk, we have told the thing
to "take over the disk". This caused the disk to be
partitioned differently fronm what i wanted, so the install was done
aggain.
After that, we enabled the onboard video and set the memory back to 8 m.
We also ran an upgrade from 7.2 to 7.3 successfuly after Windows was
installed
on the first partition.
This was the first time that i saw a cdrom that stop working always in
the same place.

Thanks for all the help.
Regards, Willem
