I think you can not connect to your ISP through minicom as this needs some kind
of authentication protocol ; PAP, CHAP so minicom is not a kind of automated
feature. This is my opinion depending upon my experience.

Hello,
Thanks to everyone who responded with the help and info on my PnP modem
last night and to pnpdump and isapnp. I finally got my Supra Express 56i
(PnP) to dial-out. I only had to take out my sounds card and networking
card--NE2000--, wipe the drive and reinstall RedHat5 again. I thought
There are probably a couple of fine points that I've gleaned in working
with ISDN vs analog modem. Treating an ISDN modem as an analog modem is
fine if you're only interested in 56Kb, i.e. 1B channel. If, like me,
you have a 3Com Impact IQ, and would like to avail of features like
multi-link PPP a
I think PPP HOWTO show you how to write the PPP-ON and PPP-OFF script.
Check it out.

This is how I can it to work now...
I login as root

type,
xhost + localhost
and then run Circus (the IRC program) and don't get the error anymore .
So far, its working well for me. Thanks for all the help.

Hi,
Well, if you are connecting to your ISP via Minicom (even for 2
minutes) I think Linux is seeing your modem. So, you shouldn't worry
about /dev/modem now. I was having similar problem. I think your best
bet is to run netcfg from a Terminal (as root) and then fill out all
the information
All I have had to do, is check the init string in /etc/sysconfig/network
then change the number that pppd dials to the ISDN number, make sure the
modem is setup to operate with the interface that you need with your
provider. Store the settings as default for the modem, and restart the pppd
connect
I have an external ISDN 'modem' that I'd like to use. I already have PPP up
and running over an analog modem so I have no networking issues. Where can I
find information on configuring Linux and PPP to use ISDN? I did scan the
HOWTOs and did not find anything seemlingly relevant.
Thanx!

I'm not sure if you want to go into X to do this, but ezPPP allows you to connect

I need to establish a PPP connection to my office where the security
arrangements require me to type in a user id, random password from my
securcard, again a user id and password, and then the 'ppp' command. On NT and
Win95, I configured dial-up networking to display a terminal after connection,
I tell you the best way is to go to xwindows then go to the terminal screen and
give command modemtool .

I think that setserial just helps you to configure IRQs and such. I'd
recommend netcfg for basic configuration. At least, that's what worked
for me.
