I just got a US Robotics 56K Voice Faxmodem. Model number is 5685. I know that some of the USR modems are listed as incompatible, but I don't believe that this is one of them. It is not the Windmodem version. Anyway, I disabled PnP with the jumpers, and have the thing installed on COM1 using IRQ3. It works fine under window$, but I get nothing when I try to dial from Linux. I'm running RHL 5.0 on my Intel box. Before this, I had a Zoom 34I modem on the same COM and IRQ and it was working fine under Linux. I'm using netcfg to set everything up. When I hit the activate button, I get nothing... not even a dial tone. Any ideas about what to do?
