Kevin,
You
did not break a Cardinal rule, it seems you blew it away, but it's great
reading. The main reason I like the Mastr II radios is they are more
straight-forward radio. Motorola had a tendency to let their engineers
over-engineer things at times.
Great
reading!

I just picked up almost 500' of FSJ1-50, 1/4 inch hardline, from an Ebay buy.
Loss figures are not all that wonderful, but it's solid copper center
conductor, and solid copper tubing sheild.
Works pretty easily with PL-259 connectors, and

Mil Spec RG-214/U. Make sure that the two shields are silver plated and
that the center conductor is silver plated.
You need the double shielding to minimize desense. And you need the silver
plating to minimize shot noise as the cables are moved.

You would have really "got him there" if he would have hooked the input
of the preamp to to the Antenna Port of the duplexer and then
transmitted..
Try looking at this. Hope it helps.

The cable from the duplexer RX port will go into the Input of the
preamp, the Output of the preamp will connect to the Receiver Input via
an added cable.
Some additional thoughts:
It's a good idea to close couple the preamp to the duplexer. This can
be accomplished by using a double male conn
Out goes to the receiver and input is going to the antenna port.

The 68P81014E15 Manual mentioned below is a supplement to the
68P81008E40 manual - you will need both for your radio.
The 68P81008E40 for the basic radio and the 68P81014E15 for the
wide-spaced assemblies. The 14E15 Manual is an interesting study
in itself.
Hope this helps,
