I have a few questions regarding a Celwave PD-497 6-cavity VHF
duplexer.
I have tuned quite a few duplexers in my time, but this one has me
baffled. I have a decent Tektronix spec analyzer with tracking
generator, and also an HP8920A with tracking generator. I have tuned
all kinds of UHF duplexers

Don't need to outlaw Vista, no one wants it. :-)

Hahaha.. nice.
Actually I am wholeheartedly glad the folks working on our systems out
here did "all of the above" on all of them, long ago -- in the 2nd
highest lightning strike number State in the Union.
If we are to outlaw windows I think we should find out what version first.. I
like the XP version here...

Wait-lightning bug becoming extinct? Not around here!

In a given year, somewhere around a dozen birds die by crashing into the big
windows on the front of my house. In contrast, I might see one or two dead
birds per year in total at all of the 50 or more tower sites I go
I may have a few parts laying around for a station. Lemme know if you
need anything - The back plane ($1800) is a killer. I probably have a
working interface board. Steve NU5D

You forgot to blame him for birds flying into towers and being
killed

A 50 ohm splice is (hopefully) a true 50 ohm splice and for most
frequencies well below 800 MHz I would not get excited. My major

And doesn't that big coil of excess hardline look just
like an inductor to lightning? That might explain why
it arced where it did.

Actually I should have said "low R/L conductors". R/C came off my fingers
instead.
If you think of lightning being RF and not DC, a lot of the mysteries
regarding the right way to ground equipment, antennas, feedlines, etc. goes
away. Lightning behaves a lot like a very ragged step function, rif

I ordered a replacement exciter... THEN I tried resetting the
rom defaults it is fixed. GRR.. Well I guess I can start
building a second station... :-)
Oh well sounds lots better now.:-)

It is inter spacing white noise over the modulation like a second
receiver open squelch being gated in and mixed, although there is
none. I isolated down to the tx board by swapping every other module
through another back plane/controller... process of elimination.. :-)

There are two pots in the TX SYN, but that would be a last ditch thing.
Usually you can make everything work OK in software. The pots inside
the module are for LF mod (CG tone, DCG, etc) and HF mod - higher end
audio frequencies. The DSP in the system module also can very much

I ran into something similar on an R100. I tried to use 5 khz steps in
binary coding, and found that the synthesizer only responded to every
third step. Maybe this is happening. I programmed 146.22 in the rec

To add to this, the transmitter is dip switch so the rx is the
problem at this point
it looks like the tx will go wherever needed.
My tx module has modulation issues too but that is another matter...

Actually having worked for the water company, It would be easier and cheaper
to have them get a group of earthmovers and remove about 100 ft of the

I just checked this am.. Mine do not have a dipswitch in the rx

that... Not vco tuning this is a ma
Under 100 bucks for three ground kits and under 300 bucks for the ground
kits, a ground bar, polyphaser, and copper strap. The copper strap is the
most expensive part. Still cheap protection for the time and money invested
in your repeater system.

Same advice the tower crew gave us. I'm definitely taking that to the club.

Ground kits at top and bottom of vertical feedline run (before any bends),
and another ground kit at the entrance port to the buildling/shelter.
Polyphasers inside the shelter mounted to the the common-point ground bus
bar for all of the indoor equipment, with the indoor common-point ground
tied in
LOL! Actually, we were discussing having the county add 10 feet to the legs
of the water tower, but when we realized that we'd have to recoordinate, we
changed our minds!

Yeah, and your repeater is probably responsible for the Honey Bee decline as
well as the Lightning Bug becoming extinct. Durn Ham radio operators!

Actually- I disagree. Ham or not- you should repair it the right way.
At the very least you need to replace all the equipment, feedline,
connectors, antenna, mounts, wireties, and anything else associated with the
system. You do not want to take a chance on any of your equipment going bad a
No. but that was recommended and we're considering. What are your thoughts?

Mike this very same thing happened on a 47Mhz simplex base station -
poor range, high vswr. Fold over monopole. Dummy load, still bad,
replaced RG8 between the building and the antenna, still bad. Pulled a
little cable from the building and there is was - RG8 blown up due to
lightning. Stev

Does anybody have any 100 Hz tone reeds for micor repeater station? I
need encode and decode. I need at least one set, but may be interest

This is a follow up to my original post.
The tower crew showed up yesterday to swap out the antenna. Once at the top
of the water tank, we had them connect a dummy load to the top of the
feedline and discovered that the feedline itself had a poor VSWR.
They disassembled the top connect
Marty, did u ever get ur MVS programmed? I have the stuff - just
haven't used it in years. If I can find a working MVS, I could put your

Unfortunatly you will need to swap out the range 2 exciter and receiver for
range 1 units.

Amateur radio can be a valuable backup for Fire, EMS, and Police
communications systems. There are occasional Simulated Emergency Tests
preformed to uncover deficiencies in primary systems and once uncovered,
these need to be addressed. Our Cities and County bought a radio
communications system
