What are you trying to accomplish. Are you trying to enable communications from
handheld to handheld accross your town, or are you trying to improve the
receive coverage of the base setup at the firehouse??

That difference will determine your options.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Spectra radios as repeaters

Group,

I have a couple of Motorola Spectra radios ID# T83FWA7HA9AK with
HCN1073D remote heads on them. These guys are the full trunk mount
radio that came out of some police cruisers when they moved to 800
Mhz. We use them on the 155.xxx frequency band for our city CERT
(Community Emergency Response Team). We have Motorola HTs that are
programmed to the same frequency but obviously limited in range (5
watt). We have the Spectra at the Fire Station in the middle of
town, with a tuned antenna sitting on the roof (about 15 feet up on
a mast) and we can reach the entire city with that 110W of power.

So, we would like to put in a repeater, but cannot afford one.

Is it possible to tie two of these radios together to create a
repeater system? What would be required to do so and how would I go
 about doing it?

Or, am I barking up the wrong tree with this whole idea?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks
