I believe the original company to make all of these was Mitel. Clare
and Teltone were repackagers, I believe. Thus the "M".

MT8870 is currently the most popular.
Direvitieves are MT8880 and MT which add DTMF encoding capability.
Other harder to find chips that are out of production are the SSI-204
and SSI-202
