They found the crimp-on connectors were more dependable as well as making better connections. They made sure because some of their transmitters ran 500 watts and their 900 MHz stations ran 300, if it's gonna leak 900 is the one it would affect the most. We did a lot of government/military work over the years and it was required to use crimp type connectors on flexible cables. They determined that it was easier to inspect and was more reliably done.
