There is an exception. Kenwood had a DCS system some years ago that
used afsk data, similar to mdc 600 to alert other like radios. This
afsk resembles modem tones and has nothing to do with continuous digital
coded squelch.
Some other squelch systems are Burst also called AutoMute by motorola
