Since you are not seeing a doubling of the notch depth with the two
cavities in line, I suspect the cable length is incorrect as Eric
pointed out.
You also mention the tuning caps seems a little flaky. They
shouldn't. It may be that they have been lightning damaged, since
that is a known

When you fabricated the jumper cables, did you consider the length of the
coupling loops that are inside each cavity? Depending upon the loops used,
the jumper cable itself might need to be shortened by 10 to 12 inches, so
that the overall length including
