what's the suggested route when not using FM Server? I use a standard copy of
FileMaker sitting on my ASIP server to run a set of database files which five or so
users make use of. Should I be tinkering with Applescripts or somesuch to close the
database files prior to back up?

I've been using Retrospect very successfully for some while now, backing up
our small Mac LAN to recordable CDs.
However our company has grown some over time and the use of CD-R is no longer
a real option as it takes too long to do a full backup of the 30GB or so of
data on the LAN.

I've noticed that on a number of occasions when backing up my ASIP server
(6.3.1) from another Mac, any connected users get shut out, although the
server continues to work and the backup proceeds without a problem.
What's happening? any advice gratefully received.
