I currently backup 7 Mac/Win clients, including our ASIP file server,
via a separate backup machine (PCC PTP 225, OS8.6). Some time ago I was
forced to include 4 more mac clients to the backup set-up but without
more remote client licenses I have set the backup computer to logon to
these extra clients when it starts up, a procedure that I would
generally avoid. So far it seems to work OK, but on some occasions the
backup machine locks when trying to logon to these clients. In that case
I usually trash the backup's Appleshare prep file and reset the chooser
to remember to logon on the local clients. Is this method less reliable
than using Retrospect's client software, which I use to backup a couple
WIN clients along with our Mac server.

TIA

Paul Harms
