Apache ORC community uses 2.8.1 based on `Panagiotis Garefalakis`'s comment
(which I shared here) because he is the Hive committer and ORC PMC member. In

BTW, Apache ORC community upgraded the storage api to 2.8.1 at
[ORC-867](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ORC-867) at Apache ORC 1.7.0+
