I haven't used these tools, but it seems they don't rip from DVD-A
discs, just the audio from video DVDs . . . .

Phil, I'll have to confirm the version I have. Mine doesn't have that
option and I'd be REALLY interested to see what parameters you can
change, if any, of the downmix. If it's 'preset' then you'll probably
get a mix with film parameters. Better than nothing, I'd guess.

I ripped the DVD-A with the extract downmix option to a set of wav
files.
You're talking about using DVD-A Explorer, right? I don't remember
seeing an 'extract downmix' option there, and most DVD-As I have
I'm getting the odd transient volume glitch on some tracks I've ripped
from DVD-A using DVDA-Explorer.
Anyone know a good free tool I can use to look at 24/96 Flacs (Audacity
doesn't handle these files at all properly)?

I use a PS3, a modified Clux 11SA and a TASCAM 144 to extract SACD. It's
a royal PITA but it works.
A modified oppo BD-83 (4 RCA SPDIF addd) should work too.

Could you elaborate on this ?
I could of course be completely wrong about this - it wouldn't be the

I'm in the midst of ripping my first DVD-A... I notice that replaygain
(as added by Foobar) seems to have issues - it's coming up with some
very odd numbers, presumably phased by the 24-bitness of the files?
For example, track/album peak seems to be 55%?
Anyone got a solution for this or do I

Just skip the replaygain thing Phil.
I had issues with flac.exe not working with 24 bit files - I unticked
the replaygain option and it worked fine.
Chris :)
Thanks EGD and Chris... skipping RG.
Sure sounds good!

Foobar 2000 seemed to come up with some believable RG values for a DVD-A
Explorer ripped DVD-A.
Sounds good on the Transporter. Doesn't sound too bad downsampled by

A friend is mailing me this disk - I wondered if anyone here had ripped
it successfully (I'll be after the hi-rez stereo mix)?

DVD-A Explorer seems to cope with everything so far.
I haven't heard this remaster, but it should be a decent mix on the

I'm pretty sure I posted this elsewhere but at the risk of repeating
myself I took the SPDIF out of my DVD-A capable player and managed to
get GarageBand to sample at 44.1 / 24 bits. I'm told that most DVD-A
players down-sample the digital-out to protect the high res data stream
from just this
+1 for DVD Audio Explorer. It is a very easy program to use and allows
extraction of whatever audio files are available on DVDA.
I spent a while last night ripping the stereo 24/96 files from the six
DVDAs in the Doors box set, and the 24/192 from David Crosby's If I
