The rest of the system could care less. aplay and alsamixer see and use it

I believe you said this is a USB sound adapter, no?

I've encountered problems with USB devices occasionally; the devices may not be identified consistently across reboots, and with some devices with external power supplies I've had to power-cycle the device after each reboot to get it recognized.

I've done some Googling but have never found any useful answers.

Hmmm. Odd. Could some other sound application be getting a log on the
card before caed runs sometimes and not others?

If jack is present on the machine but not in use, try running jack
when Riv cannot see the card and see if jack can use the card at that
point.

Is pulse in the mix on t his machine?

"AlsaConfig sees it, it's active,"

does rdalsaconfig look different when it doesn't work vs when it
works?

all the best,

                  Hello,
I recently installed Rivendell on a CentOS 7 minimal
install per the install scripts on github. I'm
running into a problem with Rivendell keeping the
audio devices... somewhere? ALSA can always see it,
AlsaConfig sees it, it's active, and RD used it for
the first 18 hours the machine was running. The
power went out, reboot, and now in RDAdmin, hosts,
audio resources, the card is "not present". Every 4
or 5 reboots it comes back, but then will go away
again if i shut down RDAirPlay or reboot again.

Alsa always sees the device. (It's a Henry USB
Matchbox, nothing more than a USB HID device) It did
this for PCIe sound cards, Axia drivers, etc.
Everything I can throw at it.

The machine is a HP DL360 Gen6 "server class"
machine.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Does the  "server class" machine have an on board sound
card? If so, are they swapping order?

Are you running straight alsa or is jack in the mix?
