There are rsync patches available for Mac OS X which offer various
meta-data support. If you decide to use these patches, then rsync will
offer you some additional options.

LBackup lables each snap shot tree with Section.#. This is similar to
the way Lewis described for labeling the backups.
If you want to keep the directory structure intact with -DD-MM you
could have a post script which which generates symbolic links from the
Section.# to the -DD-MM f
LBackup supports sending status emails relating to backup jobs. You
could simply look at the code this uses and customize it to your
requirements. Alternatively, you could write your own script to send
the status email. As far as I know sending emails is not really a job
which rsync current
