difference between src and destination sizes when rsync was run

hello all, i have two machines, one is a rsync server and another is rsync client when i run the rsync client for backup, the src dir is showing 4.8G and the destination dir to which i am backingup is showing 5.5G can anyone tell me why is this. thank u all regards venkatesh -- Venkatesh.S
