It never fails! If you are having a problem trying to get something to work, post something looking for help and within 15 minutes, you'll figure it out!
I went back and reviewed the railscast on nested forms, which used a has_many form and answered my 3rd question = you have to have an array. In my new action in the Groups controller I just added: 1.times {...@group.users.build} and changed my fields_for to: <%= f.fields_for :users do |user_fields| %> and everything worked! Singular - plural is something you just always have to think of.
