      Dear users,

the main developers have decided to distribute GNU MPFR under the LGPL v3+
license up from version 3.0 (and right now for the subversion repository):

- this will hopefully better protect our work against software patents,
 cf the recents threats against the free software community
 (http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-10173126-75.html)

- this will enable us to include code from GMP, which is LGPL v3+ too
 (i.e., avoid to spend our time duplicating the good job done by the GMP
 developers)

- since GMP is LGPL v3+, and MPFR heavily depends on GMP, this will not
change
 much for the final user of MPFR (for example within GCC).

Of course, previous versions of MPFR remain under LGPL v2.1+.
