Hello everyone, Now that asksage is over a year old, maybe we understand its role well enough to make some improvements to the FAQ and homepage? Here are some suggestions, for whomever can do such things; any other ideas!?
* Prominent description on the front page explaining that this is a Q&A site for the mathematics software. This could be part of the text for the banner message displayed to new users, which currently reads "First time here? Check out the FAQ!". It would be helpful, I think, to also include a link to sagemath.org somewhere prominent. * Updates to the FAQ: There are a number of suggestions in questions tagged "FAQ" [1]. In particular, this would be a good place to mention again that this is for the mathematics software Sage, and give links to the other resources for help with Sage (or a link to sagemath.org/help.html). Since several of the questions end up revealing bugs, I think this should include resources for filing bug reports or getting started with development (sagemath.org/development.html). The FAQ that currently exists is extremely generic (most of it comes with a fresh askbot install). Some effort could be made to write more relevant answers to those questions. (I'd be happy to do some of this, either in this thread or off list.) n.b. In case (like me) you find it confusing to have a separate FAQ for a site whose *content* is a list of questions, note that we're talking about different kinds of questions -- I find it helpful to think of FAQ as short for "Frequently Asked Questions About Using Ask.Sagemath.Org" * Improvements to email settings: Here is what a typical email header from asksage looks like: From: nore...@sagemath.org Subject: [ASK.SAGEMATH] [ASK.SAGEMATH] Re: "update sage, best practice?"
