in the just released 5.0 . Did someone already open a ticket for this?

I solved the problem on OS X (that's to say: Sage starts, I am running
the test suite now).
The additional patch at #11900 is rather short and ready for review.

Just to clarify - if a ticket is marked with 5.0 as the milestone, should
we be rebasing its patches to this prealpha? How about the beta you are now
constructing? Or should we continue to base them on the 4.8 series of dev
releases?

box "bsd" because Darwin is based on BSD made just enough sense to me
