Better late than never... on OS X 10.4 PPC there are a number of doctest
failures but mostly related to doc and rpy2 not building (see #16044).

Full build from the tarball on OS X, 10.9.4 (Xcode 5.1.1, 4-core Core i7).
Completed w. no problems. All tests ('ptestlong') pass
