Hum… Not sure where it is stored while building but your generated Makeconf
file that is used to build R package should have a line
CC = gcc -std=gnu99
but you only seem to have CC = gcc by the look of things.
I guess we could check the effect of building R like so
CC=“gcc -std=gnu99” ./sage -i r-3
Can you try the patch proposed at http://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/17907 and
see if it helps? You seem to be the only one who can reliably trigger this
bug.

Built from tarball on OS X, 10.6.8 (Dual 6-core Xeons) and 10.10.2 (Quad core
Core i7).
Build completed w/o problems on both systems.
