Please provide more details about your MacOS version etc. Our "app"
version of Sage on MacOS is outdated,
due to lack of developers who know about details of the platform.
E.g. if you have MacOS 10.14 I recommend to use
sage-8.6-OSX_10.11.6-x86_64.dmg (from one of the mirrors, e.g.
http://mirrors.

I tried to download the app.dmg file so that I was able to have the
shortcut on my desktop. Is that not the case? I know someone else in my
same class was able to download the program and use it and I'm using the
same process as her but there is something just not allowing my computer to

It tells me that there is no file or document that exists. I am attempting
to download the .dmg file that you referred to earlier so I am going to see
if that file helps at all instead of the app.dmg file that I tried to
download.

I'm posting this in case someone comes across the same problem.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 19.04. Trying to start sage resulted in
the message "killed".
This was with 8.8 Beta 4 and 8.3. The later was an official
distribution. Both behaved the same way.
There was a bunch of cruft under ~
