They are written as they happen but due to the way the OS manages write it's
well possible that not all is in the log if there is a crash.

Administration Tools Pack (link below). I use it to connect to WIN2K
and Windows 2003 machines. It allows you to connect to the console
session of a machine just by checking a box. I am not sure if it is
officially blessed
