Due to some reason even there is a failure in application, user will get
home page where they can provide their username and password [application
authentication], but the moment they login it displays "page cannot be
displayed". Is there way to capture/ alert whenever application fails.

Is this 'just' using authentication or do you mean that the
username/password had to be entered within a web form?
Dirk.

Does anybody have (or know of) a check (probably external) that will tell me if a file hasn't been modified in a certain amount of time?
I have a file that should be updated weekly, and I need to know if the process didn't run.
Thanks

MRTG is very easy to implement... we run it on a 90mhz pentium 1 using Open
BSD as the OS
It is open source, so you can find out how the SNMP works for integration
with S.A. or somehow write an external check of your own that uses the
output from MRTG.

Just check something on the remote end with a short timeout. When you
get a down it is because the link is slow. that is the quick and dirty
solution.

you can use SNMP for this - honestly, I don't know how myself. We use a
program called MRTG that you can find on the internet. I know it uses SNMP
to graph the bandwidth.
I know that doesn't really help, but maybe it can lead you to the right
thing

we just recently had a bottle neck on the same segment, where
thruput just comes to a grinding halt -- a simple reboot of one router
seems to "fix" (I use that term loosely) the problem for a few days
I've had a run time error 91 on two occasions when configuring external COMs
as well. I click Configure and fill everything in, then click ok. Then click
Update to add the new check and I get the run time error and Servers Alive
exits. I can then go straight back in and add the check in exactly the
