This shows that the authentication as such did work (username/password are
correct), the logging (in SA) however says that you can't access the
requested resource (not enough rights).

I found this in the event log at the approx time I was trying to setup the
check...

The computer attempted to validate the credentials for an account.

Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0

So both are failing?
If you look in the remote eventlog does it show the user you configured for the
check

In v8 you can use different type of authentication for a service check, did you

I know this is one of the most basic checks SA can do, and I've done this
hundreds of time. But I am getting an authentication error when trying to
connect to the NT Services of a server that is not joined to our domain.
It's not joined to any domain for that matter. It was setup by a 3rd party,
but what am I doing wrong?
"Error getting the service information from 192.168.20.30 (5- 0-)
 Access is denied."

I am doing: Check Tab, Check to use: NT Service, enter the
NT user/pass, then hit the ... by the check "service" and I
get the above error. I have tried
servername\username; .\username; username . I even created
a new local administrator account to make sure I was using the right password
(even though I was RDP into the server already).

Thank you,
Anthony Laatz
