I've got salive to check to see if Kiwi's syslog is running. I'm using the
default port of 1468, this is working well. I have also added salive to
load syslog if the port check fails. This also is working well..

I'm, trying that and it's failing. I used port 514, that's what salive is set to send the syslog message on. Is that the port I should be checking??

The only thing I'm doing right now is checking the syslog service, but I've come to the understanding lately that the service can be up, but not actually working. Ultimayely what I plan on doing is setting up a loop - IE sa sends a syslog event to kiwi

If you would use the TCP syslog sending and have the Kiwisyslog accept TCP
message, tnen you could check the TCP port.
