The current implementation is almost unchanged from the original SimCoupe code, which explains why they all behave the same. It has a 100us timeout starting from when the first (of 9) mouse bytes is read. A mouse reset is performed when this expires, or after all 9 bytes have been read. Edwin had looked at the interface schematics, and reports that the timeout is closer to 50-60us, and should be restarted after each byte is read. This still didn't completely cure the problem, so there could be another issue somewhere.
