This has been a known problem w. cups.
It is fixed in the current releases.
If the jobs stay on the cups servers: use a newer samba version.
BTW:
In at least 95 percent of all cases: do not use a print command with cups!

to see what she is sharing?
server should be the netbios name of the XP computer.
If the printer shows up, the command:
smbclient //server/printersharename -c 'print file'
should print to that printer.
Or, log onto the share with:
smbclient //server/printersh

We are planning to shift some desktops onto linux. These linux desktops
will be on different NIS domain. We have got a windows domain.
I want the files on linux desktop to be shared with windows machines on
the windows domain. For that, does the linux desktop need to

created a print$ share and gave everyone read access to it. I then gave write access.

decided to quit ... deleted the computers from the domain and re-added them
using:
smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DOMAINPDCSMBNAME -UAdministrator%password
Works again, but I still don't understand what caused it.

Are you sure your browser did not already gunzip it for you? Some do
that. You might want to check if samba-2.2.7-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg.gz is

FTPd the file through a browser. When I FTPd using an FTP client, it
gunziped fine. Apparently the browser caused some type of problem.
