I am trying to get WinBind working against Windows 2000 ADS.
I am following the document
http://de.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/winbind.html.
I have successfully joined the samba server to the PDC domain.
/usr/local/samba/bin/net join -S PDC -U Administrator
The winbindd starts successfully
Had this problem after trying to connect using samba 2.2.7. Assuming
you're using the RPM which installed to /etc/samba try this:
Open a term window and navigate to the /etc/inetd directory and locate
the "swat" file.
Right-click this file, select "Open With", and choose "GNU Emacs" or
"gedit".

I was reading the release notes for 3.0beta1, which says this:

map any users authenticated by the remote DC to the 'guest account'
if a uid could not be obtained via the getpwnam() call. Samba 3.0

Sorry for the off-topic question -- is it possible through Windows, then,
to share a scanner on a W2k machine without any additional software?

Hi, when I create a file through a windows machine on a samba home share
on my linux box, it defaults to -rwxr-. I don't want any created files
to have executable permission by default. How can I make it have 640
permissions by default for any new file created? I tried putting 'create

It sounds like you need the betrieve program loaded. If I recall Novell could
do some record locking without btrieve but handle it like btrieve. I run a

was I thought.
After your message, I'll try changing to LPRNG to see it it works. Tomorrow I'll
send more news.

Samba-3.0.0beta1 running in a stand-alone mode, tdbsam backend, no
idmap options set. When I add a group map using net groupmap between

Yet when I do net groupmap list, all groups still point to
I'm trying to learn Samba on a Linux 7.0 box. I've just installed Samba
2.0.7. I've been able to run all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.TXT, manually
edit the smb.conf file, and I can even see some folders on the Samba
server from a Windows 98 machine on my LAN. But I am unable to run SWAT

Hi there:
We have recently inherited a circa 1996 SGI Indy Colorbus Cyclone running on
Irix.
Our intention is to use this unit to drive our Canon CLC900 Scanner Copier
and make it accessible to our Windows Network.
At the moment, our Windows Network does not "see" the Cyclone & vice versa.

I am no expert and am certainly rusty on this sort of question. Just some
ideas. I do not know if the suggestions below are really what you
need. However, how do you think that samba is supposed to do reverse
lookups to find the name corresponding to an ip number?

Hi all
I try to get Samba running on the recent Debian stable release.
All upgrades have been done and Samba was included in the OS Installation.
I use the Samba version 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian.
smbd and nmbd are starting automaticly when the System is running.
The smb.conf is still the one from th
It would appear that nmbd doesn't do what it's should on
networks that used non-standard subnets.
To reproduce just set up a 10.0.0.0/3 network and observe
that nmbd doesn't operate correctly.
