In fact, you still need an /etc/passwd file : you need a system account in
order to create a samba account, but you can use libnss-ldap to redirect
the system calls to the LDAP directory (via nsswitch), this will allow you
use ldap-only accounts...

a person who wants to print must authenticate before every print. Account
information are stored in a LDAP directory, I have found a parameter
kickofftime but found no needed information.

Under what circumstances is the error logged, and how does it relate
to Samba? I think you should first search Microsoft's knowledge base

username are user1 and user2. If I create a file with user1 and then change
it with user2, the final owner's user of the file is user2. Isn't it a

We currently have an NT4 Domain with 50+ machines connected to it, we
have one NT4 PDC and two NT4 BDC's.
We Currently have three redhat 7.3 servers that offer up our file shares
using Samba 2.2.x
As opposed to "upgrading" to windows 2000 we want to see if we can
migrate

I've not been able to get Samba to print to a Lexmark Z53.
If I call it a Z52, the driver uploads (to where, I have no idea so I

I'm a newbie at Samba and have been attempting to get Samba to run on a BSD
box with little success. Looking at hte /var/log/log.smbd file I get some
wierd error message:

bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.
Case strange... I've past probably 30 hours by now on this, crawling the web, and doing
attempts. I managed to make cupsaddsmb run without producing an error, but it fails.
