I have installed Samba 3.0 the other day, and it works great on my XP
machines. However, Windows 95 and 98 machines display an error when
trying to authenticate at the samba domain.
In dutch the error says: Ongeldige parameter which translates (if i am
not mistaken) to Illegal parameter.

Unfortunately I have tried all manor of combinations of op locks, etc. and
nothing makes any difference. I don't think this is anything to do with
locking - when you change the read only bit in file properties on the
windows box there is nothing on the log, i.e. this happens totally on

the default in 3.0.0 is yes.

browse.dat. The database seems to keep about 2,200 servers only. I have
more than 3000 servers and somel do not show up when I do smbclient -L

Having a problem getting v3.0.0(or pre3) to compile on a Solaris 8 box,
tried Sun compilers and Solaris compilers.. Recompiled/Re-installed
Kerberos all roads lead to the same error compiling Samba, it gets about 2/3
of the way done and spews...

Thanks for the information. I think I have got it working. I also had to
enable NIS Homedir to Yes (Even though the protocol is LDAP). I am not
sure if this made a difference as I had changed a few other parameters
as well. So far so good though.

print to Samba(3.0)/CUPS(1.19).
The 9x clients do not always print the colour for some graphic object types
(where XP/2000 clients do).

When I tried to add a user with usrmgr I Received error Access Denied but the user
was created in ldap and it was added as a memberUid in Domain Users group.
Is User Manager for Domains compatible with samba 3.0 domain?

Working with Samba 3.0 on rh9. Set up samba to use tdbsam (small network,
maybe 30-40 users tops) and be a PDC for the internal network. Will be
joining machines to this domain. My smb.conf file has been configured to
use tdbsam as the backend, and with an add machine script, add user
script,

will not accept the user. An easy way to configure pam on RedHat is to

I Had similar problems in BSD when I had more than one version of
kerberos installed. I'd make sure there is only one version and that
the libs and headers are for the same version.

Are you runnin g net as root ?
You installed a source rpm, not a binary RPM. it sin
/usr/src/mandrake/SOURCES or something like that. you can make it into
a binary rpm to install, rpm -bb samba3-3.0.0-1.1mdk.src.rpm and it'll
compile and build the rpm and put in /usr/src/MANDRAKE/RPMS/i386 or
something like that.

join worked fine, set up a test share, changed the owner to be something
from the AD through winbind and the group to 1 (Domain Users) even
