I have this problem. Window Xp machines show up in Network neighborhood
when they are started but after some time (20 minutes or more) they
disappear.
I can find them with search computer.
Mapped network drives still work.
They reappear if I restart the pc

I know a lot of cross-subnet browsing in a ipsec environment stem(?)
from the MTU settings for your connection. I know I have the turn it
down to around 1200 to be sure all data arrives on the other end.
All the symptoms (slow logins etc) point at it.

I solved deactivating the eth1 interface and rebooting both clients and

It might be related - but the problems happen on both SSL and non-SSL
connections. I do get the feeling that there have been a bunch of
similar bugs (features?) in IE6. I guess since it only happens when
using NTLM auth it really can't be called a bug since there is no
actual protocol

If you are using Fedora and have selinux enabled for your build, at the
console setenforce 0, and then try getent. If successful, I would suggest
modifying selinux policy to accommodate the need for access.
