I did not try alpha11. I got it to work with the version from git
about a week ago. But I think it should also work with Alpha 11.

Should the system keytab need to be world readable to be able to
authenticate via winbind as a remote kerberos user?
I don't seem to remember this being required in Samba 3.3 or earlier
(but I could be wrong about that). And I didn't think it was a
recommended configuration.

i noticed something odd after setting up a Samba PDC/domain. Seems that i am
able to add machines to the domain by using the root account, but when i log on
as root, it has no privileges to modify settings on the computer, particularly
the computer name and Workgroup/Domain settings(
I do not think my error comes from my version of Alpha, in the other person, it

So I think my problem is elsewhere!

I've got a couple Ubuntu 9.10 machines that are suffering from a
recurring failure of winbind that essentially crash the machine. When
the system is in the "crashed state", one can ping the system, but all
forms of login fail. It will not even respond to tftpd requests; ssh
