Hi there.
I have a few dozens domain controllers in samba 3.0.24 and Im in the
middle of the process of migrating them to 3.2.5. But know I realize that
they are a few problems with the password policys.
With the 3.0.24 I can force a user to change the password on the next
login and I check this
Hello all,
After spending some time looking into the problem, I have found out that
changing the hostname of the machine on which samba was running to be 16(or
less) characters long did the trick. With "internalfileserver"(which is 18
characters long) as hostname Mac users were not able to conn
Wireshark provided some better detail of traffic capturing. The bind

The invalid DN responses were also generated if the ldap_base_dn values

Linux "unix" authentication uses a proxyagent account. There is no
particular reason that Samba should use this account.
However, to rule out the spaces and quotes being an issue, I updated the
smb.conf on this machine (Fedora Core 11 linux member server) to use
the cn=proxyagent,ou=mydom
I'm currently building a Samba3-based domain (DomA) that has a trust
relationship with an existing production NT4 domain (DomB).
DomA uses an LDAP backend. The LDAP server is local on the PDC and is
dedicated to such use. DomA runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian 6.0.
DomB is an old-timer: NT4 domain that'
I feel like I'm missing something that must be obvious to everyone else.
My Samba server is integrated into AD, but I can't create local groups.
Following the sequence below results in Access Denied.
Start -> Right Click My Computer -> Manage -> Action -> Connection to Another
Computer -> FQDN

on the other side what are you seeing under the Access and Errors logs for
DS?
are you seeing the actual bind coming in?
on the FC machine I presume you are running over proxyagent?
I tried with and without the double quotes.
the following commands do work in linux (it will prompt me for the pw.)
ldapserach -D "cn=Directory Manager" -b "" objectclass=* -x -W
ldapsearch -D "cn=admin,cn=Administrators,cn=config" -h spooky -b
