Hi
Our fileserver is currently on DC1 in a 2DC domain. We are running out
of space on that box.
Is there any possibility of being able to run smbd on another box (not
necessarily a domain controller) by syncing the data over to it from
DC1? We also run NFS on some of the same data. I can
Hello list,
Im trying to migrate some shares from an old 3.0.14 samba installation
to a 3.5.10 and run into a mangling issue.
Both systems have mangling method = hash set.
Acessing \\oldserver\rec\Arquivo\ARQUI~XX points me to

In the new server it points me

In this case I suggest a normal samba3 member server.
Alternatively you can use member server-role with samba4.
But I didn't try a join as a member with samba4 so far.

Does your DNS server allow client machines to update? I can't speak
for Samba 4 but I would with Windows 200x DC's it was simpler to
temporarily allow DNS updates while adding a DC.

Hi
Thanks. The server-role=member sounds good.
How do I then tell the clients (I
Hello everybody!
Still struggeling with my latest Samba setup, I've just run accross
another problem which I can't figure out on my own. Samba is supposed to
act as a WINS server (among other things) on a multihomed machine. (The
Samba version is 3.5.1 as part of Debian Squeeze)

DFS could be a solution:
msdfs proxy (S)
This parameter indicates that the share is a stand-in for another
CIFS share whose

Just to add some more info, here are the directories in either servers.
The mangling results are completely different.

Yes, we changed the default mangling hash between 3.0.x and
3.2.x.
To use the old hash set:
Hi Jeremy.
Thanks for your reply.
I know that, this results are with mangling method = hash in both
servers.
Samba 3.5.10 and 3.6.5 give the same mangling results which in turn are
different from 3.0.14
Has the hash method itself changed?

Ok,
So there may not exist an easy fix for this other than rebuilding all
the links in the Excel and MS Access files?

I wonder if DRDB would do it too?
AFAIK DRDB is something like a mirror. So no, DFS is a kind of
redirection/link.

you have to do the file share sync and locking some other way. gfs or
