Umlauts in Full Name and we want to move this user from XP now to Windows 7 in

First things first: Read the f... manual
- you should not have 2 groups with the same gidNumber
- sambaLMPassword & sambaNTPassword do not hold the password in ascii,
both must contain password hashes
Go back, and take some time to read the docs

I have not testet this setup. But I am shure you get the right
direction.
The acl entries beginning with "default" are the rights for new created
directories and files.
Avoid setting rights in the share definition, at least for testing this.

KDE file manager I can see that 8 files belong to user ‘harry’ &
group ‘harry’, while the 9th belongs to ‘root’ & is one of the files
displayed. All 9 files have the same permissions –rw-rw-rw-. The displayed
files have either ‘txt’ or ‘dbf’ as their extensions.

problem or install a different
version of samba and get my existing smb.conf working. Not sure if/how I can
roll it back so if that's an option then great.
This could have been avoided had i better inspected this system before
managing it!!

in a share [homes] a user has a subfolder with permissions as follow

From the Windows-client you see
Group Administratorsno rights
Users full
Everyoneno rights

in their home-directories (share [homes])
