I am kind of like you. I am having limited success with this on my
networks. However, I suspect that you probably don't have control over the
WINS server. Right? Or is it a Windoze box?

P.S. - I suppose you have al

assume this would actually be a function of NMBD).

Good way to debug is to first do a
smbclient -L 192.168.1.100
That will give you a list of shares on the host. If that doesn't return
anything, you probably forgot to restart your daemon or are having other
networking issues.

Hello. I’m a Graduate Student, and I’m
trying to set up Samba on my Solaris 2.8 box so that my team members can network
map their home accounts from my Solaris box onto their PC.
Everything works great within my home. (i.e. I have a home
network, and all my PC’s can mount my UNIX home
users :)
Good Luck - and don't give up!

I've got a Windows XP network that I want to get working with Samba as a
PDc. I successfully, I thought, set up a machine account for my XP box on
my Samba server from the XP box. It said 'welcome to the edith domain'.
Great. I was very excited yesterday. NOw, though, I cannot log onto it. It
,
however, a $ behind the name. That designates it being a machine? I am
still kind of at a loss.
your help is greatly appreciated.
