Just a thought, does your Mortgage software have an Auto save feature? If so
may you can set it for every 5 or 10 minutes to keep the share active. I
would think someone has developed a work around for this by now. Have you

How can I tell samba to look in /etc/samba for smb.conf? Right now testparm
defaults to the '/usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf'?
And having two copies is annoying.
Im sure its so simple that Im overlooking it.

My system is RH 7.3, Kern 2.2.21, samba 2.2.7a.
When I installed 2.2.7a tar ball, it put the files in /usr/local/samba

What switch did I miss during ./configure that will put them in /etc/samba?
I saw a few switches but im not sure which to use to

When it finished, it typed, service smb stop, service smb restart, then

Well first problem I see is you editied your sbm.conf...Should be smb.conf
;-)
Can you access it as root? Id start by making sure the permissions are
correct. And that the Sharename in smb.conf matches the folder name on the
server and that the path is correct.
Is there a was in Logon script to figure out what user is logging on and
only map those drives to those users?
For instance I have 3 users Sysadmin, Deb, and Nicole, With Public, ~ , and
Music share.
What I want is Sysadmin gets access to all 3, Deb Gets access to all 3, and
Nicole only gets
What is the preferred method of letting Win9X users changes their password?
I Have the necessary settings on smb.conf (passwd chat, ect.) but still
can't seem to get it to work properly.
And trust me, if I upgrade the Win OS's, itll cause more confusion then
needed.

I was thinking of putting a slightly bigger HD on my Linux server and would
like to know the easiest way.
I know that ghost works well on FAT32 partitions, but does it work on Ext3
partitions too?
Id rather not reinstall if I don't have to, so any and all suggestions are
appreciated.
TIA

Just to make sure, EVERYTHING on the win 98 desktop will be transferred to
the server correct? Is there a way to pick what gets sent to the server, as
the disc space is limited right now and on client gets about 1/2 way through

When I upgraded to 7.3 I noticed userconf was gone. I was wondering if there
is another textmode user manager, or if one could find it on the 6.X cd and
install it from there? I really prefer this to Webmin or any GUI manager.
