Sounds as if you are running RedHat?? I would try to run 'chkconfig --list'
and see what services that are started for each runlevel or possibly the
more graphical 'ntsysv --level 345' (you can specify whatever runlevel yo

I assume you mean hide, as in hidden when browsing Network Neighborhood or
My Network Places??
If so, add a '$' (without the quotes) in the share name, i.e. share
